New Year's Resolution: Take Some

by Tony Caravan

"I loosened my tie, and felt what it feels like to breath... Took off my watch and found I had all the time in the world..."
--Time For Living/The Association

--I look around and see most people caught on a merry-go-round of life. They work too much and have very little time for the true pursuit of happiness. They complain, only to comply -- even though the solution is right before their eyes -- get off the gard-darg ride!
--It's a lot easier than you think... Though the media, government and advertisers would have us believe that we have to work like slaves and pay most of our hard-earned wages for their entertainment, protection and products; the reality is, we have very little need for them and the over-priced junk that they peddle.
--By down-sizing and simplifying your life, you'll find you need a third of the money you're spending. That's right, the average person can live a modern, high-tech, fulfilled life on a part-time job if they want. Of course, it requires a shift in thinking, and probably an exodus from the cookie-cutter neighborhood and lifestyle.
--There are cities all over this country with major transportation, cultural centers, parks, and entertainment where nice houses still cost less than $100,000 -- and that includes a backyard. You can solar power those homes and never pay electric (or heating ) bills again. Drive a hybrid/electric and cut your gas expenses more than half. Buy less processed foods and save thousands, while eating healthier. And still you can browse the internet, listen to MP3s, use your iPhone, watch high-definition movies on a big screen TV and go out and socialize in the same kinds of places with the same kinds of people that you do now.
--All you have to do is want it. I'm doing it right now and and it's a gas (groovy). Anyway, maybe I'll write a chapbook about this, this summer. Peace!
